Studio DEMO: Bootlegging as Language

From counterfeit to bootlegging, Ben Schwartz and Shanzhai Lyric's conversation will explore the evolution of sampling and borrowing within music, fashion, and design. Schwartz is the author of Unlicensed: Bootlegging as Creative Practice, an interview-based book on how sampling has evolved into both a unique aesthetic and a refined language—and how it now influences everything from record labels to publishing industries and beyond. Shanzhai Lyric is a research initiative sparked by Ming Lin and Alex Tatarsky and produces an ever-growing archive of "poetry-garments."
