Studio DEMO: Brainrot Aesthetics
June 4, 20253–3:30 PMWSA, 180 Maiden Lane, New York, NY 10038
Available for all via livestream, Studio DEMO is a broadcast hub featuring NEW INC's wider creative community. Broadcasts take many forms, including talks, demonstrations, couch conversations, panel discussions, DJ sets, and more.
How has social-first video content evolved to dominate visual culture, and what does it mean for culture and society overall? This conversation will outline the aesthetics of “brainrot” content as a new genre, with its own signifiers and motifs. Moderated by cultural critic Whitney Mallet and featuring David Lisbon, Curatorial Assistant at the Whitney Museum, and Bri Griffin, Community Designer at Rhizome, the discussion will zoom out to examine the internet’s effects on the evolution of contemporary art.
Studio DEMO sessions do not require tickets; seating is first come, first served.
