Babette Thomas

Babette Thomas (they/them) is a researcher, artist and radio producer broadly interested in the intersections of Blackness and new media. Greatly inspired by their family’s histories of cultural production and activism in the San Francisco Bay Area,in their work, they explore how new media (specifically sound media) can be used to memorialize site -specific Black histories in ways that are bothaffective and educational.With this, they aim to create work that honorsBlack colloquial forms of storytelling.They’ve worked at institutions such as The Whitney Museum of American Art, The National Museum of African American History, SF MOMA and NPR where they’ve produced podcasts, sound works and digital storytelling experiences about Black history and culture.
